About — Sculptural Practice

Working primarily in ceramics, I enjoy experimenting with intersecting geometric form and motion. My creations explore the tension between brittle crystalline structures and fluid movement, revealing circular connections that exist within seemingly rigid frameworks. Each piece challenges traditional ceramic boundaries through the interplay of structure and motion.

The physical manifestations of my work are embodied by large and small hand-thrown rings which are compressed for structural integrity and rolling vessels that intentionally lack structural bases. The circular elements evident in my sculptures reflect my interest in motion and change. They also highlight the contradictions found in fragility and movement as well as engineering and craftsmanship. These connections manifest not only in the physical form of interlocking, nested, and modular components but also in the conceptual underpinnings of each piece; suggesting continuity, interdependence, and transformation.

With a Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design and a Master's in Graphic Design, I bring over a decade of industrial design experience to my sculptural work in clay. My design background infuses my artistic practice with a distinctive perspective and technical approach, particularly in conceptualizing and engineering mobility into traditionally static forms. My established design expertise provides a unique foundation for my evolving ceramic practice.
